Hey there and hello. I’m writing this while at sea in a raging storm. The boat is rocking violently back and forth and I think the prospect of being thrown into the dark sea is imminent.
I am writing that metaphorically but it is how life feels at the moment. 2020 has been ridiculous. Globally, nationally (here in the US), and personally. On the personal front, which is the vantage point I will be writing and speaking from, life has been a bumpy ride since 2005. I’m not going to get into that now, but the point is, things are crazy and they will just keep being crazy.
All we can do is slow down personally, as that is the one area of life that we have the most control (still not all of the control, but close enough).
Which brings me to the here and now, writing this and choosing to document my past, present, and whatever happens in the very moment of sharing. Reflection for me, something for you. Something to learn from, laugh at, or whatever.
The sharing of this matters because, to be frank, there is a lot of negativity out there in the world right now. And while what I will be sharing is not intended to solve any of the big problems, it is intended to help on the micro personal level of existence.
If you feel like you are on that boat I described above, and you desperately want off, join me. Subscribe.
As a human, you and I probably have a few things in common. Maybe. The steady job, the house, and so on. This newsletter is for humans. Humans with flaws. Humans who forget to pay bills, drink cocktails late at night, binge shows on Netflix, yell at their kids, apologize to their kids, forget to kiss their significant other goodnight, feel like a failure some days, feel like the luckiest person in the world on other days, and sometimes skip bushing their teeth at night. I’m guilty of everything above. I don’t have it together, and I don’t think anyone actually does (despite trying to show otherwise).
What we may not have in common is what led me to the trailhead I’m currently at: traditional woodworking, and even more niche, green woodworking. This is not a woodworking newsletter and I am not going to write to persuade you to try woodworking, but it will be used metaphorically along the way. It is, after all, the spark that has lit my flame.
More will be come clear as we get into things. For now though, subscribe if you are looking for some calm and some hints at a simpler life and calmer seas ahead.
Cheers,
Aaron
